On Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2006 at the Peabody Auditorium, I had the ultimate pleasure of attending what in my opinion was a tribute band for the best concert I have seen in a while. Now, to say that is was the best may be an overstatement to some, but I can assure you that if you were there you would say the same. The band is rightly named The Pink Floyd Experience, and it is exactly that. Many bands have at numerous times covered a Pink Floyd hit, but this is much more; this is the FULL light show, this is the precise re-collection of a classic album along with other hits, this is, in essence, "The Pink Floyd Experience." The set started with the speakers in the auditorium blaring deep bass notes, its pitch black, the crowd is anxious, and the band starts with none other a collection of hits from their album The Wall, including "Another Brick in the Wall" and "The Happiest Days of our Lives." The band then moved quickly into a variety of other hits from various albums such as "Wish You Were Here," "Meddle," and "Delicate Sound of Thunder." Accompanied with each song was a visually intriguing series of lights, beaming in every direction and intensity the human eye could ever handle. The band finished up the set with the full album of "Dark Side of the Moon" and the crowd would not settle for the end. The crowd was roaring as the lead singer walked out dressed in the light bulb outfit from "Delicate sound of Thunder." At times, it was hard to realize I was only in a small auditorium given the energy of the crowd. Realizing the energy and enthusiasm in the crowd, the band came back out for an encore to remember. Starting with "Hey You" then moved on to the all time favorite of most people, "Comfortably Numb," (with a solo to die for), and ending on an extended version of "Run like Hell" while a giant 12foot pig from the classic album "Animals" flew around the audience. This was an amazing concert, with theatrics to accompany it. This is unlike many other concerts in the sense of crowd and band activity. I would highly recommend any classic rock fans out there to make time to attend The Pink Floyd Experience for the show truly was an experience.
