The Indian Students Association (ISA) hosted the Diwali show on Friday, Nov. 16. The event celebrated one of India's biggest festivals, Diwali, which is a festival of lights that is celebrated all over the country, marking the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya from his 14-year long exile.
The event started off with an authentic Indian food buffet for all guests. The actual show kicked off with an introduction of India and the festival Diwali, followed by the mellifluous voice of Rohan Bhatnagar, a professional singer and an ERAU student, paying a tribute to the former ISA president, Akash Kuruvilla, who recently passed away. Among the other prominent events were various traditional Indian dances by members of the ISA, interspersed with a few more vocal performances by Rohan and a one-minute games gig that awarded the winner of the game a $120 gift voucher to Busch Gardens. The Indian Cultural Society, Daytona Beach, also showed full support to the ISA through a beautiful Bharatnatyam (a south Indian cultural dance) performance by five girls from the association and a song by Mrs. Anu Kher, also a member.
The four dance performances by the ISA guys and girls showed the extreme talent, skills and dedication of each and every performer. The support that ISA received from Daytona's Indian community was huge. It truly displayed that no matter how far away from home the students are, there's always somebody to support them. Moreover, the university's media productions, Touch-N-Go, Student Activities and the school newspaper, The Avion, helped greatly on their parts to bring the event to stronger heights. It will undoubtedly be an event memorable to all that were able to attend the function and contribute in its success.
