A horrible story of a Riddle Student being treated horribly by the school's administration has recently been occurring, away from the eyes of most of our students. Antoinette Miller, who recently walked across the stage at the Ocean Center, has been involved in a judicial turned criminal fight with the school, all stemming from what would seem like a simple incident on April 20.

Miller was sitting on her motorcycle in the O'Connor Hall Fire Lane, when she decided to move it to the motorcycle parking lot behind the Student Village. Because her bike is lowered, she had to move it over the sidewalk. One of our Safety Officers, Randy Collins, saw her do this and confronted her. He seemed to understand at first, but when Miller failed to produce her student ID or any government ID, and gave him a bit of an attitude, Officer Collins had her trespassed from the university by the Daytona Beach Police Department. This raises the first issue with our Safety Department. Why are we trespassing students who pose no threat to the university.

Keep in mind, this was before school ended. Because of this, every time Miller came onto campus for class, food, to study or take finals, she was violating the trespass order. This led to further confrontations with Officer Collins, who at one point chased her around campus on foot for a half hour to make sure she left. At one point, the Safety Department had their officers, along with the DBPD patrolling for signs her motorcycle. The students I have talked to feel that this is not only a waste of student tuition dollars, but of taxpayer money also.

Miller's judicial fight has not been easy either. Miller said "I have never been talked to or treated this way in my life." Miller went on to further say that she feels that she is being treated like a second class citizen. This is mainly the result of her interactions with Associate Dean of Students Cathy Downes and New Director of Safety Paul McGuinnes. Dean Downes has painted her as guilty from the start, at many points refusing to work with her to resolve the situation so she'd just graduate and go. Dean Downes has even had horrible dealings with Miller's mother on the phone.

I bet Dean Downes AND all of Daytona's Riddle Vice wear Crocs.
Whatever happened to a little discernment coming from Riddle Vice? Whatever happened to giving a warning and just making sure someone follows through? Do you wonder what kind of attitude the Riddle Vice officer spewed at Miller? Power corrupts, and the power this security guard held got to his/her head and obviously didn't have the wisdom nor the knowledge on how to properly diffuse the situation. (Continued…)

It is exactly this reason (students being treated poorly by ERAU) that I won't give money to this University. Sorry, I graduated five years ago, have no debt, make almost $100k a year, but none of my money will come ERAU's way. (Continued…)

Aside from the terrible grammar of this opinion article, I think there has to be more to the story.

Ms. Miller also was issued a trespassing order against the Daytona Beach campus. (Continued…)

A year ago she was a student at Prescott Campus, how is it that she could have been kicked off when she was a student there until December? And what was she kicked off for. (Continued…)

Majority of the faculty and staff feel that the students are here to serve them and not the other way around. This attitude is clearly evident across the university. (Continued…)

Personally I was disappointed in the Avion for not checking with Campus Safety and the Dean's Office before posting this article. True, it is an Opinion article which means it may or may not be truthful and expresses only the author's side of things, but if the Avion wants to resemble any type of a "true newspaper" they need to check facts and consider things before posting opinion articles. Maybe the school Avion should have checked with the student before publishing an article as well, seeing as though there are lots of names being thrown around here. (Continued…)

One important fact to consider is that the opinion article fails to mention that she is a head case. Haha did you ever hear why she transferred from Prescott?

As Mr. Asbury said above, this is an opinions piece. The Avion fine print makes it clear that they have no part in the authorship or research of the letter. (Continued…)
