ERAU Tae Kwon Do

'Tis a compelling experience to participate in and let others know of being part of a national event for a martial art. Think of an entire gathering of ilk from all corners of one nation to witness and be part of an artform that is to be sculpted by each and every single individual. Here, the rivers from the mountain seek their source; the boundless channel that makes a creation eternal. The creation - in this case, our art of Tae Kwon Do; the way of the foot and hand - may find eternity by being aware of the presence of its origin. Without some gathering to allow this creativity to collect and recognize itself, which has split into so many directions and places, then much would certainly fade and be lost. We of the Tae Kwon Do Club at Embry-Riddle announce our experiences at the gathering of our Chang Hon style via Taekwondo America (TA) during Jan. 23-24 in Orlando, FL.
Comments from our members, from both participants to observers:
"It was fun and exciting to compete against my friends and my roommates. I had a great time and am looking forward to the next one in March." - Joanna Johnson
"The atmosphere at Radisson World Resort's Tae Kwon Do National Tournament was nothing like "The Karate Kid." Instead of tense seriousness, the judges maintained calmness and friendliness, though not at the cost of competency. I felt completely at ease and comfortable enough to walk around and interact with participants' parents and instructors. Observing the various age groups sparring and demonstrating their forms and stances was both enlightening and fascinating. This event has spurred my interest in Tae Kwon Do even further." - Jolie Gascon
"Participating for the TA national tournament has been a very enjoyable experience for me. Every contestant from around the nation came not only to compete with each other, but also to have a great time as well." - Odbayar Odnamar
"Although I did not compete in the nationals, I enjoyed my time at the tournament. The tournament was exciting, and it was nice to see how others have prepared for the tournament. I went in support of my classmates, and had the opportunity to see everyone in our club compete very well. I believe everyone earned at least one medal, which goes to show how dedicated our club is to Taekwondo. I have no regrets about going as a spectator; however, I believe I will be competing in the next nationals. It will prove to be a great experience." - Mike Blendea
Placing medalists in our club were the following:
Men's Division:
Odbayar Odnamar, Senior Orange Belt, 3rd place in forms;
Jacob Brodnick, Senior Blue Belt, 1st place in sparring and 2nd place in forms;
Adrian Levitsky, Senior Brown Belt, 2nd place in sparring and 4th place in forms;
Women's Division:
Anna Jones, Blue Belt, 1st place in sparring and 2nd place in forms;
Joanna Johnson, Blue Belt, 3rd place in sparring;
Paige Kahler, Blue Belt, 4th place in forms and sparring.
Our Assistant Instructor, Jennifer Bonnette, passed Third Degree Black Belt testing during the national!
Congratulations to everyone, including Tiffany Musholt, who received a spirit award!
We wish for the community at Embry-Riddle to have all the best in their endeavors, and we thank you humbly for reading!
