DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Embry-Riddle men's tennis player Carlos Bes Comeras garnered yet another honor for the 2008-09 season as he was named an ESPN The Magazine first team Academic All-American as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.

Bes Comeras completed his bachelor's degree in Software Engineering in just three and a half years, graduating in May 2009 with a 3.85 cumulative grade point average. He was a four-time Academic All-Conference selection and earned Daktronics-NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors twice.

A native of Zaragoza, Spain, Bes Comeras also enjoyed success on the courts. He earned All-Conference recognition in each of his four seasons wearing the Blue and Gold, was a three-time All-Region honoree and garnered second team All-America honors in 2006 and 2008 before closing out his career as a first team All-America selection and the ITA/NAIA Senior Men's Player of the Year in 2009.

In the fall of 2008, Bes Comeras won the ITA Florida Regional title in singles play and teamed up with Jan Hoekzema to capture the doubles crown as well. He finished fifth overall in singles competition at the ITA/NAIA National Championship in Mobile, Ala., and he and Hoekzema advanced to the national championship match.

Bes Comeras was ranked sixth in the ITA/NAIA national singles poll and he and Hoekzema went wire-to-wire as the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the nation. He finished his collegiate career with a 63-21 overall singles record and a 74-21 mark in doubles play.
