The main goal of the Environmental Awareness Committee (EAC) of the Student Government Association (SGA) is to create a level of consciousness of sustainable efforts taking place on and off campus. In order to achieve this goal, the EAC committee will be presenting monthly environmental movie nights, titled Green Motion Cinema, all leading to the big finale for Earth Day on April 22. In order to kick off the event, the EAC will be presenting "Aviation: The Limited Sky," from the E² series of PBS, for students who are concerned in the green initiatives being implemented right now in the aviation industry. Many clubs, organizations, faculty and staff will be attending to discuss with students the sustainable efforts initiated right here at Embry-Riddle and how students can get involved in order to make an environmental difference. The event will take place Nov. 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the IC Auditorium, with free refreshments provided for students who attend.

The movie will discuss the shocking growth of CO2 emitters, which has many aviation industry leaders concerned with the amount of fuel being used for typical airliners. I encourage students to view how the leading aviation industry is taking a stride to explore solutions for key pressing environmental and social challenges. The transport development is rapidly increasing in traffic, which means a daily increase in CO2 emissions. As an undergraduate student, analyzing new technologies and policies prior to interviews that could possibly offset the aviation industry's substantial greenhouse gas emissions will be a key element to conquer that dream job we all desire after graduation.

The EAC works closely with the Center 4 Sustainability to bring forth sustainable efforts on campus. Together with students, faculty and staff members both organizations create outstanding ideas, but need the help of the student body. By displaying a visual image of sustainable efforts through an environmental video, the EAC will be able to demonstrate an example of how our participation through our years at Embry-Riddle truly survives even after graduation. For more information please contact Nicole Wilson, EAC Chair, via email, wilso5af@my.erau.edu. The EAC meetings are every Monday at 5 p.m. in the SGA conference room. Hope to see everyone Nov. 23 for an amazing opportunity to expand individual knowledge of the aviation industry's future.
