Once again, parking will change at ERAU next semester with the passing of a resolution of the University's Parking and Traffic Committee on Nov. 18.

As part of these changes, the Citation Center parking lot, which is located behind the B-building, will be switched back to being solely for faculty and staff members at the beginning of next semester.

To compensate for that loss, commuting students will gain 50 extra parking spaces in the Falcon parking lot, as well as several spaces in the Columbia parking lot, which will be restricted to commuting students only.

Both Columbia and Citation Center parking lots used to be shared by commuting students and university employees. These changes will come into effect at the beginning of next semester.

More faculty and staff parking spaces may also be freed up as the site work for the new Aviation Complex is wrapped up in the midst of the Spring semester.

This resolution was a mix between proposals coming from the Faculty Senate and the Student Government Association, who both had representatives sitting on the board.

"We are very appreciative for the 50 additional parking spaces in the Falcon Lot," said SGA President Bryan Dietz, who sat on the committee along with Student Court Chief of Justice Rojith Perera. "It is dedicated parking space that only commuting students can use. While this wasn't our exact proposal, we feel that as long as we keep monitoring the parking situation on campus, the administration will react positively."

Dietz also underlined the fact that no parking change is permanent. The parking situation is re-examined and re-discussed on a semester-by-semester basis. Feedback from students and faculty is therefore encouraged.

Other things discussed at the Nov. 18 meeting of the Parking and Traffic Committee included maintenance, holiday parking, the increased presence of safety officers and the problem of speeding in the University's parking lots.

The Parking and Traffic Committee is chaired by Richard Amato, the ERAU Parking and Traffic Services Supervisor, and will meet again next January.
