The Student Court has had a consistent workload this semester. The majority of cases handled have been from the Parking and Traffic Office and parking appeals from students. When cases are referred to the Court it is imperative that students understand their rights and responsibilities. Once charged with violating University policies, rules, and/or regulations, students are summoned to appear before the Court at a set date and time. To increase student understanding of their rights and responsibilities the Student Court introduced a new form this year in its judicial process. The form's contents are taken from the student handbook that everyone receives during the first few weeks of the school year.

There has been an increase in a student's preparation for a case since this introduction. The Student Court is constantly trying to uphold the student's rights and responsibilities and welcomes any further suggestions on this matter.

Parking Appeals: The Student Court has seen a decrease in parking appeals reviewed
initially for responsibility since last Fall. As of November 13, 2009, total appeals are at 124. A breakdown of this number is provided below.

Student Court Cases: This semester there were 19 cases in total brought in front of the Student Court. A majority of those are ticket appeals brought by students, once their initial appeal was denied. As of November 13, there have been no cases referred by the dept. of Housing & Residence Life. The Court has now started summoning students charged with Safe Ride abuse.

SafeRide: Currently, the Student Court is adjudicating abuses of the Safe Ride program. The court recently heard two cases of Safe Ride abuse brought to us by the Safe Ride Committee. If necessary, students can be fined for abusing safe ride by frequency or by location. The purposes of these meetings were to inform and educate on the program itself and the purpose of it. Students who are found abusing the program could be charged for all the cab rides taken. Safe Ride abuse costs the student body money that could be put towards other SGA services such as club and organization funding. SGA is in the process of amending the Safe Ride policies to ensure clarity of the rules and regulations. Safe Ride is a SGA funded program that provides students with a last resort cab ride back to their residence if the student finds themselves in an unsafe environment or unable to drive themselves home. Any Embry-Riddle student is eligible to sign up for a Safe Ride card in the SGA Office in the Student Center.
