This drama is sure to make you think twice about your good side or your bad side, if there really is a strong divide. Mel Gibson was excellent in his role, and this is another movie to add to the collection of his good films.

I had no expectations for this movie when I entered the theater. I was surprised how immersed I was just seconds into the film. The music was well done, matching the movement of the story, and the feeling of every scene was enhanced with this quality of the ambiance. The story was filled with action, just enough to compliment it, not taking too much from the storyline, as is common with most of the popular action movies that have emerged in the past year.

The characters in the story were believable but there were some aspects of the characters that were odd, perhaps intentionally, but they were noticeable. The motive for the antagonists in the story was not at all elaborated on, and it would have been interesting to see some resolution there instead of just a bunch of people discussing security issues and whatnot. Perhaps the story was just supposed to concern Thomas Craven, played by Gibson, and in that sense it was fulfilling. Too often in reality it is the incomplete picture that we have to accept and work around.

The dramatic part of the story was captivating, and charges the audience with sympathy. Sprinkled into the natural detective side of his life, Craven struggles with grief throughout the film, and all of the characters are affected by his loss. As the movie develops the characters change, the making of a truly good story. When I left the theater I was satisfied.

I give this film five out of five planes. I originally rated it four of five planes, but while trying to think of a reason for one of the planes to go down, I realized I had none, and this film is worth five. If you're a fan of Gibson's movies or like a detective story, I recommend this film.
