Stand with Haiti

In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, many student groups have expressed interest in providing relief efforts for those impacted in the region. There were many different ideas expressed by student groups to aid victims, including everything from monetary donations to collection of non-perishable goods for donation.
The Student Government Association (SGA) and student organizations thus stepped in to create a unified force on campus to help generate and ensure the greatest amount of donations possible to support those in Haiti. In the best interest of the students, Haiti Week was created to host a series of fundraising events throughout campus.
During this week, 13 student organizations came together to show their support for the cause by hosting events ranging from a car bash on the west lawn to bake sales to a raffle drawing for a Sylvania 19" Digital LCD TV.
The student organizations in support were Red Rope, Triathlon Club, African Student Association, Caribbean Students Association (CSA), Omicron Delta Kappa, Catholic Student Union, Alpha Xi Delta, Task Force One, National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), Alpha Omicron Alpha Aeronautical Honor Society, Sigma Chi, Model United Nations, and Delta Upsilon. All of these student groups through their leadership helped make Haiti Week a success and an event to be remembered on our campus.
The NBAA and CSA started the relief efforts on campus by collecting non-perishable goods in various locations around campus. Students paid their respects to the victims on Tuesday night at the Interfaith Chapel where the Catholic Student Union, Rev. Meylnne Rust, and Father Tim Daly led a candlelight vigil.
There was a daily donation booth on the Flight Deck in the Student Center where the members of these student groups worked and engaged students to donate. Task Force One (TFO) held a "Storm the Dorms" event where members went to all on campus residence halls to raise awareness of Haiti Week and collect monetary and non-perishable items.
