As part of Embry-Riddle's "Haiti Week," the Model United Nations Club (MUN) took up a call made to all campus organizations to support aid efforts for the victims of the massive earthquake which struck two weeks ago. Because of MUN's mission statement, Embry-Riddle called upon the club to mobilize quickly to lend its talents to the cause. MUN's officer staff, advisor, and members deeply believed that because the United Nations has continuously played active role on the world stage, it was the duty of this organization to educate the student body in the style they know best: spoken and visual presentation.

The MUN's effort to raise money for the relief efforts for Haiti was two-pronged. Their first step involved a collection table which was set up in the Student Village by members Mike Gutkowski, Aaron Larsh, Brittany Mackey, and Nathan Sullivan with a slideshow photo presentation that was arranged by Oreste Giusti (Vice President). This presentation was composed from a variety of images from major photo contributors such as CNN, Fox News, and primarily the United Nations. Embry-Riddle students had an entire week to visit the table and check out the presentation. "We wanted to show the students images that would inspire them to help, and let them know that their contribution to this cause would never be insignificant," commented MUN's Vice President. "The images were chosen to show people that hope was very much alive in Haiti, and many individuals around the world are lending as much help as humanly possible."

The second tier of their effort to bring awareness to Haiti's turmoil culminated into a comprehensive presentation, which occurred on Thursday evening, Jan. 28. The presentation, titled "Haiti-Past, Present, and Future," was compiled by Nick Stapleton (President), Oreste Giusti (Vice President), and Brittany Mackey (member). The goal of the presentation was to highlight Haiti's historical roots, explain its current situation after the earthquake's demise, and finally, show where our nation is headed in the long-term relief process.

The audience, though considerably meek in size, revealed Embry Riddle's inspiring willingness to broaden its horizons with information beyond the usual aviation-related presentations, organized by other organizations. The reactions inevitable varied, but were nonetheless consistently compassionate and giving. "We are very grateful for all those who came to our presentation, and we would like to extend a warm 'thank you' to all those who made this week possible, especially our SGA," included Giusti.

The Model United Nations Club is proud to announce that their efforts resulted in the collection of over $250. The club urges students and organizations who want to continue to help to visit erauinvolvement.com. i just have a quick question, i know that while chairing, it can get very chaotic up there and the president can lose some control of the GA, but is the vice president allowed to lean over and take the mike, while in the vice president's seat, to make a comment/order?
please answer via email. (Continued…)

I apologise, but, in my opinion, you are not right. I can prove it. Write to me in PM.
