QEP analysis: shaping ERAU's future goals

As the flurry of starting a new semester starts to settle down, we all will begin to see much advertisement about our Quality Enhancement Plan, or QEP for short. You may recall that we have already received an email from President Johnson. I take this opportunity to share important information about our QEP. First of all, what is the QEP, you may ask? The QEP is a vital part of the reaccreditation process through Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The QEP consists of a document, developed using input university wide, to enhance student learning at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University over a five-year period. The QEP requires the input from students, faculty, staff, constituents, and the university community at large. This input is vital to the success of the QEP with deciding on a topic.
What type of input is needed? The input the QEP needs, focuses on improving student learning while simultaneously supporting the mission of the university. This input is to originate from research and not just emotional feeling. This input will be conveyed to the QEP team in the form of a "white paper." The specific instructions on completing a white paper and documents containing institutional research data can be found on your ERNIE account under QEP Development Team.
"Can I still give input without completing a white paper?" This question is a valid one and is completely understandable with a student's busy schedule. The QEP team also accepts input in the form of a discussion board, also located under the QEP Development Team on ERNIE. All input is appreciated and vital to the success of the QEP.
What happens once a topic is selected? Once a topic is selected, the QEP team will start to develop a plan on how to implement the chosen idea. This will require the university to supply fiscal, physical, and human resources. Once the plan is completed, and all the resources allocated, the QEP will then be implemented university wide.
The QEP is very important, not only to the reaccreditation of the University but also to better the education that students like you and I receive. The QEP is a great opportunity for each individual student to get involved and have a direct say in where they feel the university needs improvement. One other thing to remember is that the QEP does not only affect each student currently enrolled in the university now, but also students who enroll in the future. Additionally, since the QEP is university wide, it will affect Daytona Beach, Prescott, and Worldwide.
My suggestion, if you love Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and want to improve it, is to take a look at the QEP page on ERNIE and see if you can come up a good topic idea. Who knows, maybe yours well be the one to change education at ERAU for the future?
