With one month of the spring 2010 semester completed, the Student Representative Board (SRB) and its members have been hard at work on many different projects. These include working with Campus Safety on parking situations, enhancing the dining on campus, working to bring a new commuter student lounge to campus (student center annex), and taking your suggestions/ideas and seeing what we can do to complete them.

As you may know, the SRB has representatives from each of the four colleges on campus, as well as members that represent Graduate Students, International Students, and Resident Students. Most of these members are elected during the Spring SGA Election process (information regarding this spring's elections will be coming soon), however, every once in a while our representatives may leave for internships/co-ops or graduate from ERAU, leaving us with vacancies on the board. This spring we had four vacancies when two of our representatives graduated and two left for internships; I'd like to personally wish those members the best of luck in their futures.

The Student Finance Board (SFB) and its members work to allocate SGA funds to our many clubs and organizations on campus, as well as provide financial help/advice to these organizations. This semester, the SFB had two vacancies which have been recently filled by appointed members. The SRB and SFB vacancy processes are very similar and run at the same time; however, they are led by different Student Government members.

When vacancies occur on the SRB, our Vacancy Committee, lead by Justin Fletcher, COE Representative and SRB Parliamentarian, along with his committee members, take over and begin the vacancy process. During this time advertisements are released around campus, as well as featured in The Avion. Students interested then apply for these positions by picking up and returning an application in the Student Government Association (SGA) office.

After all applications have been returned, selected applications of qualified candidates are then offered an interview with the committee; this would be the first round of the interview process. Following the first interview, selected candidates then have the opportunity (second interview) to speak in front of the SRB and official SGA members. Once all selected candidates have spoken at the SRB meeting, the current elected representatives will vote on which candidate will fill the vacant positions. The entire process takes roughly two or three weeks to complete, depending on advertising and other by-law requirements.
